I am an expert piano and keyboard teacher with over 25 years of private teaching experience.

Pupils have included young and old many starting from no knowledge of music, or a desire to recommence musical studies that stopped in their teens. With a personal assessment of each student, a study progam is designed to fully develop individual musical talent, with due regard to their ability, wishes and goals. For examinations I can enter students for Associated Board grade exams in either practical or theory from preparatory to grade V1. A number of my students have gained very good results and have progressed to study music at University. Alternatively I can tutor students for school exams or for music college entrance and accompany them in exams if necessary.

Many students, however, just want to play for pleasure and to keep up with the modern musical scene, so I am a regular listener to TV and Radio top 20s. Expert sight reading ability permits new melodies to be played within a short time scale. I will teach new theme music including Coldplay, Keane, Elton John, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Texas, Queen, West Life, Tom Jones, Susan Boyle and many other older or modern artists. Due acknowledgement is always given to these artists; students are encouraged to buy their music or CDs. I recommend music books to study and these can be purchased by the student either on-line or at local music shops. .

My studio has a boudoir grand piano, upright piano, keyboard and synthesiser so tuition can be given on any one of these instruments. Generally children can start from age 5 with lessons only for 30 minutes; after age 10 they can be for one hour if required. Family participation is encouraged and some families have two lessons in the one hour. Most lessons are in Broxburn but some home visits can be undertaken. Intensive courses can be arranged during holiday periods. A number of my pupils are from different ethnic backgrounds.

I was educated in the Borders where I gained a number of Border Festival Certificates. I progressed to SLF in St Andrews and then to Edinburgh University Music Dept. where I graduated with an honours degree followed by a teaching diploma at Cambridge. Over the last decade I helped to organise music competitions in Livingston and was an accompanist at showcase events organised by West Lothian Voluntary Arts Council in Livingston and Bathgate.
